Eric Boeren has been writing beautiful pieces for the all star band Available Jelly for years. In his quartet Boeren he and Michael Moore explored the music of Ornette Coleman. NEWS is his latest band, being the result of a US tour with pianist Cor Fuhler, in which they picked up bassist Nate McBride (of Spaceways Inc feat. Ken Vandermark and Hamid Drake) and drummer Mike Reed from Chicago. NEWS is an acronym for North East West South, and the balance of the quarters of the compass is rudely disturbed by having Han Bennink replace Mike Reed in Oostum.
