CHANGING LANDSCAPES

Oene van Geel viola, cajon, vocals * Pau Sola cello, vocals * Philipp Rüttgers piano

The duo of violist Oene van Geel (best known for his work with the Zapp string quartet) and pianist Philipp Rüttgers has been active for a number of years now. Their compositions offer cinematic vistas, combined with chamber music and urban jazz. And there’s always room for improvisation and adventure. When they met the Spanish cellist Pau Sola, they were immediately impressed with his great narrative power. They wrote brand new material for this new trio. Don’t expect anything less than stunningly beautiful music.

SON BENT BRAAM

Frans Vermeerssen soprano sax * Bart van der Putten alto sax * Frank Nielander tenor sax * Claudio Jr De Rosa tenor sax * Angelo Verploegen trumpet * Wouter Hakhoff trumpet * Ilja Reijngoud trombone * Jeroen Verberne trombone * Aty de Windt baby bass * Michiel Braam piano, compositions * Christine Schukking percussion * Martin Gort percussion * André Groen percussion

Last year, Michiel Braam was ready to conquer the jazz world with his anniversary programme El XYZ de Son Bent Braam. After many years with Bik Bent Braam, the pianist and composer assembled a special Latin version of his big band: Son Bent Braam. Now we can finally enjoy the marvellous arrangements and musical brainchildren of this idiosyncratic pianist. The mastermind has assembled a fantastic ensemble, in which the extensive percussion section immediately catches the eye. Will there even be some private dancing with Son Bent Braam?

FELICITY PROVAN 5TET

Felicity Provan cornet, vocals * Han Buhrs vocals * Ada Rave saxophone * Harald Austbø cello, vocals * Michael Vatcher drums, vocals

For her 5TET trumpeter Felicity Provan brought together musicians who can also use their voice. Felicity Provan has always sung, for instance in saxophonist Sean Bergin's New Mob. With Han Buhrs she has a unique vocal sound artist on board. Cellist Harald Austbø and percussionist Michael Vatcher also regularly make use of their vocal cords. As a composer, Provan makes generous use of this palette, which includes experienced improvisors.

TOBIAS DELIUS BOOKLET

Tobias Delius sax, klarinet * Joe Williamson double bass * Steve Heather drums

Tobias Delius has been carrying a booklet along for a very long time. A small notebook for him to write down musical ideas. For over thirty years the saxophonist has been active in the Dutch new jazz with Sean Bergin, Tristan Honsinger and Corrie van Binsbergen. He was also a member of Available Jelly and Louis Moholo’s Viva la Black and is a stalwart of the ICP Orchestra. Nowadays he lives in Berlin. The booklet full of musical scribblings forms the basis for his international trio Booklet. Bassist Joe Williamson is a Canadian and drummer Steve Heather hails from Australia. Together they form a very nimble trio.
